Nursery Environment
At Mayfield Pre School we care for young children aged between 2 and 5 years old, in a beautiful engaging environment where the children have opportunities to explore and investigate with the support of our skilled team.
We believe at Mayfield Pre School that children are strong, capable learners from birth and seek to discover the world around them using their senses to explore and investigate their environments. We design our environments carefully and observe how the children interact with them, planning their next steps using the Early Years Foundation Stage to document and support their learning.
Our rooms are small and intimate and are beautifully resourced to inspire the children’s curiosity and support their learning opportunities. We have natural materials to create possibilities for the children and foster their imaginative play, as this is where children are truly unique. We carefully listen to the children’s play, how they manipulate the materials and resources and how they interact with one another, working together to resolve problems or support each other through their daily discoveries.

Safety in Mind
The educators extend their play by carefully adding resources to further enhance the opportunities available, and intervene if required, through careful questioning or offering a simple suggestion.
2-3 year olds
Every child is Unique so all activities are planned based on your two-year-old’s interests and needs. Play is at the heart of our curriculum. Children are focussed on developing their friendships, beginning to share ideas and work together. Creative play is an important part of your child’s development, so we incorporate it into their routine on a daily basis, encouraging them to expand their independence and develop new skills, such as feeding and dressing themselves and toileting skills. . Imagination is in abundance and our children are starting to delight in their role-play skills, becoming more interested in their friends.
We have empty spaces for the children to utilise as required for large scale work, yoga sessions or dance classes. We also have access to the school hall, which we use for dance classes.
3-4 year olds
At this stage of their learning children will be learning about routine and developing early literacy and maths skills, learning about the world around them and learning social skills.
The programme of activities and the atmosphere of our Preschool aims to encourage confidence, independence and enjoyment. Our aim is to enable children to develop their emotional, social, cognitive, interpersonal and physical skills, and their desire to explore, discover and be creative. The Preschool will provide a well-planned and organised play environment that offers children rich and stimulating experiences, alongside opportunities to explore, experiment, plan and make decisions for themselves. The programme of activities will recognise and consider the differing ages, interests, backgrounds and abilities of the children. Activities are carefully planned to allow children to build on their natural curiosity, advance their thinking, use their imagination and develop positive social relationships. At all times, the Preschool will support and recognise a child’s individuality, effort and achievement. The Preschool will ensure there is a balance of adult-led and freely chosen or child-initiated activities.
